  • How do humans perceive information? An user interface design must account for the facts
    • Perception is a multi-step process: movement is perceived before anything, then contrasts and colors, eventually letters and words.
    • Memory works pictural
  • How do knowledge emerge from information? An user interface design must account for the fact that knowledge is build in individual heads. While this process perceived information is interpreted and integrated to existing knowledge.

Software Engineering

  • How can an universal user interface be designed that represents the users current tasks/interests directly? The usage paradigm must be teachable in 1 hour.
  • How can information be stored in a way retrieval is ensured? Retrieval must be possible
    • after long time
    • in a different context
    • by another user
  • How can information be presented in a way the user keeps in mind? Permanent workflow breaks must be avoided, like starting applications, browsing though file hierarchies, resize windows, switching between windows/applications, saving files...
  • How can users get provided with software without asking them to install and configure applications? All technic must be hidden from users.
  • How can a software architecture be designed that speeds up application development and deployment dramatically? The application framework must be teachable to programmers in 1 day.
